A server cage is a specific kind of container for physical server hardware; its main use is for security. Providers’ use cages for when a single data center handles operations for multiple clients, is meant to separate client’s hardware to prevent unauthorized crossovers. A major benefit of cages is for example in case of maintenance technicians will only access the client’s particular server cage instead of the entire hardware setup in the server room. Among other things the standard data center cage is rigid metal for optimal protection but it can be modified along with cage door access denial technology to address customer specifications. Data cages ultimately protect data center equipment as well as provide documentation of who is accessing the equipment and for what purposes.
